Just off the lobby at the gated North Lawndale campus of the social service agency UCAN sits a room where women, mainly mothers, convene for hours sharing stories about their lives and children, their successes and frustrations. At a time when the consolidation of journalism endeavors is producing a homogenized journalistic landscape given hedge fund/private equity firm ownership, local journalism outlets are growing with young people at the helm ready to address voids in the field.
