Vintage: The Tri-State Tornado ravaged Illinois in 1925, killing roughly 700 people
On March 18, 1925, the Tri-State Tornado struck southeastern Missouri, southern Illinois and southwestern Indiana, resulting in some 700 deaths. The tornado is considered the largest, longest, fastest, most destructive, most deadly U.S. tornado with 695 deaths, 2000+ injuries and a path length of 219 miles from southeast Missouri across southern Illinois into southwest Indiana.

Winner Beatriz Whitford-Rodriguez, right, 13, of Skinner North Classical School, will go to the 100th Scripps’ National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. CPS has sent a regional winner to the National Spelling Bee for more than 60 years.

The wake of Zulma Daniela Calderon Pacheco, 21, was held at Caribe Funeral Home on March 13, 2025. Calderon Pacheco was killed Saturday after being shot in the face at Mansion Live nightclub in Stone Park. According to Stone Park police, a fight broke out inside the nightclub about 1:40 a.m. Saturday. Police later said a security guard at the club fired one shot, which struck Calderon Pacheco.
