National Weather Service officials are expecting the season’s first frost to hit the area overnight Tuesday following a day of showers and possible thunderstorms near Lake Michigan.
Officials said there was a chance of lake effect showers and isolated thunderstorms capable of producing small hail and gusty wind through Tuesday evening. Then temperatures were expected to drop to a low of 41 degrees making way for frost overnight into Wednesday morning across northern Illinois, officials said.

Officials said showers and thunderstorms are likely after 2 p.m. in the Chicago area with a steady temperature in the high 40s Tuesday. Conditions are expected to be breezy with possible gusts up to 30 mph.
Frost and freeze conditions are expected Tuesday night after showers are expected to hit between 7 to 10 p.m. Then temperatures are expected to hover around about 41 degrees.
Current morning weather at O’Hare International Airport is light rain at 42 degrees. Farther south at Midway Airport conditions are mostly cloudy at 45 degrees.
