Chicago Bears add to their defensive front with a trade for Darrell Taylor

GM Ryan Poles’ urgency to add teeth to the Chicago Bears’ pass rush led to Friday’s trade for Darrell Taylor. Poles sent a sixth-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks, a league source confirmed, bringing Taylor to the defensive front four days before the Bears will submit their initial 53-man roster.

NFL Network first reported the trade.

Taylor has 21 1/2 sacks in his career including 5 1/2 last season in Seattle. A second-round pick out of Tennessee in 2020, Taylor will add to the Bears’ depth up front.

Poles has been active in seeking reinforcements for his defensive front and, last week, aggressively pursued a trade with the New England Patriots for Matthew Judon. But the Bears were unable to get contract certainty with Judon beyond this season and ultimately steered out of the trade negotiations after offering a third-round pick. Judon eventually went to the Atlanta Falcons for a third-round pick.

The Bears will open their season two weeks from Sunday at Soldier Field against the Tennessee Titans.
