Chicago Bulls center Jalen Smith pays nearly $2M for Near North Side condo

Chicago Bulls center and power forward Jalen Smith in August paid $1.95 million for a three-bedroom, 2,573-square-foot condominium on the 45th floor of a Near North Side tower.

Smith, 24, played for the Indiana Pacers for parts of three seasons before signing a three-year, $27 million contract with the Bulls in July.

In another illustration of Chicago’s soft condo market at the high end, the seller who sold the 45th-floor unit to Smith had paid $2.9 million in 2022 to buy it from the building’s developer. That means that Smith paid almost $1 million less for the unit than his seller had, just over two years earlier.

The unit has three baths, custom Lutron motorized shades, motorized drapes, 11-foot ceilings in the kitchen and living room, wide plank European oak wood floors, a custom built-in office area, a custom-designed kitchen with an island and appliances from Sub-Zero, Wolf and Cove, and a primary bedroom suite with a bathroom that has floor-to-ceiling slab porcelain, custom-built vanities with lit mirrors and Kallista fixtures and an oversized shower with a cantilevered bench.

The condo comes with two parking spaces. The building has a covered motor court with dedicated valet parking.

The condo was first listed in March for $2.35 million. The seller reduced the asking price to $2.25 million in June, and then to $1.95 million in July.

The unit has a $1,970-a-month homeowners association fee.
