Chicago Cubs in the 2024 MLB draft: Pick Florida State’s Cam Smith at No. 14

The Chicago Cubs selected Florida State infielder Cam Smith with the No. 14 pick in the 2024 MLB draft on Sunday.

Smith, 21, played two seasons at Florida State following a high school career at Palm Beach Central in Wellington, Fla.

The right-hander hit a career .331/.420/.594 with 28 home runs and 93 RBIs for the Seminoles. Collegiately he spent most of his time at third base but played a few games in the outfield.

He also played one season for Hyannis of the Cape Cod League, hitting .347/.406/.575 with 12 doubles and six home runs in the wood bat league where he was named an All-Star.

Smith was drafted No. 14, one pick after his Florida State teammate James Tibbs, who was selected at No. 13 by the San Francisco Giants.

The Cubs also have the No. 54 pick in Sunday’s draft rounds.
