A 26-year-old Chicago Heights man was stabbed to death Monday and a second man briefly barricaded himself in a home where it took place, according to Chicago Heights police.
Police said they responded at about 6 p.m. Monday to a call of a battery in progress in the 100 block of West 15th Street.
Officers located a man with multiple stab wounds, who was taken to Franciscan Health in Olympia Fields and pronounced dead at 6 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The office identified him as Erik DePillars, of the 0-99 block of West 14th Place in Chicago Heights, and the office ruled his death a homicide from multiple sharp force wounds.
Police said a suspect barricaded himself inside the home, and was eventually taken into custody with the assistance of the South Suburban Emergency Response Team.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and ask anyone with information to call 708-756-6400.
A message left with police Wednesday seeking additional information was not immediately returned.
