An 18-year-old man was shot in the back and killed Sept. 12 in Dolton, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Jeremy Ryan Matthews, of the 1800 block Pulaski Road in Chicago, was found at East 154th Avenue and Sunset Drive and died at about 10:40 p.m. at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial in Harvey, the office reported.
Matthews’ mother, Lakeisha Blake, started a GoFundMe page and raised about $18,000 as of Friday. She said the funeral is covered, but she hopes to celebrate Matthews’ life after his funeral and is hoping to secure a large space to do so.
“His last words to me were, ‘Mom, I’m on my way home,’” Blake said on the GoFundMe page. “I’m coming to terms and trying to understand the true meaning.”
Dolton police did not respond to requests for more information Friday.
