Chicago White Sox sign veteran pitcher Bryse Wilson to a 1-year, $1.05 million deal

Bryse Wilson has worked as a starting pitcher and reliever.

He’ll bring that versatility to the Chicago White Sox after agreeing to a one-year, $1.05 million contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Wilson went 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 34 appearances (nine starts) for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2024. He had a 3.57 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 25 relief outings. Wilson pitched at least five innings in six appearances — two of which were starts — during the season. Wilson went on the IL with a right oblique strain in early September and did not return.

The right-hander, who turns 27 on Friday, is 20-21 with a 4.61 ERA and 305 strikeouts in 143 career outings (52 starts) during parts of seven major-league seasons with the Atlanta Braves (2018-21), Pittsburgh Pirates (2021-22) and Brewers (2023-24).

Wilson made a career-high 20 starts (25 appearances overall) in 2022 with the Pirates. The next season, he had a career-best 53 relief appearances, going 6-0 with a 2.58 ERA for the Brewers.

His signing came during a busy 24-hour period for the Sox, who also acquired catcher Matt Thaiss from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations Tuesday evening and traded catcher Chuckie Robinson to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for cash considerations Wednesday afternoon.

With the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster is at 40.
