A Chicago woman was charged in connection with the death of a 1-year-old girl on Dec. 20.
The Chicago Police Department said Marisol Vazquez, 37, was responsible for the girl’s death in the 500 block of North Springfield Avenue in Humboldt Park on Dec. 20.
Police said the girl was found unresponsive inside a residence around 8:30 a.m. and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in North Lawndale, where she was pronounced dead.
According to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, 1-year-old Lucia Vasquez died the morning of Dec. 20 in the 500 block of North Springfield Avenue. The manner of her death was homicide, and the primary cause was asphyxia and assault.
On Dec. 21, a spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services said the department was investigating the incident.
Marisol Vazquez was arrested on Jan. 2 in Wicker Park, according to police. She was placed into custody and charged.
