Clarendon Hills children use Prospect Park as their canvas

The sidewalk pathways at Prospect Park were the canvas Friday when some children, ages 3 to 6, participated in the Clarendon Hills Park District’s second annual Sidewalk Chalk Art program.

The Park District gave each of the participants a bucket with chalk to use for their artistic creations said, Maria Tobin, a recreation supervisor for the park district.

“We also made liquid chalk with the kids and really enjoyed painting the sidewalks,” she said.

Tobin said. “I came up with the idea to give the tots a fun activity in the park and will for sure do it again next year.”

The next scheduled special events for tots are Nature BINGO from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. July 26 and Aug. 23 at the Prospect Park Pavilion.

The hour-long program includes a few games of BINGO and a mini-nature scavenger hunt. Prizes will be awarded to all winners. The fee for this program is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents. Additional program information and registration information may be found on the park district’s website, www.clarendonhillsparkdistrict.org.

The Park District also has a special event, Touch-a-Truck, scheduled for families from 10 a.m. to noon on July 26 in the parking lot of the Community Center, 315 Chicago Ave.

The event, which is free and open only to Clarendon Hills residents, will provide children and their families the opportunity to get an up-close look at some of the many types of vehicles seen on the village’s roads.
