Clarendon Hills Holiday Walk, tree contest set for Dec. 6

The Clarendon Hills Chamber of Commerce is again sponsoring the popular annual Holiday Walk and a Christmas Tree contest that will raise money for Chamber and the Clarendon Hills Lions Club.

Christmas Tree contestants will receive a live tree to decorate at one of the pre-designated locations in the village.

Once a sponsor sign-up form has been completed at www.clarendonhillschamber.com/trees, participants will receive an auto-generated response with a link to select a tree location. All trees are already setup and ready to go, requiring only decorations and a decorating crew.

The form lists a brief description of each tree location and whether or not it has access to power. Each tree will have sign placed with the name of the family, organization or business sponsoring it.

All trees must be fully decorated before Dec. 6 and undecorated by the second week of January.

The Dec. 6 deadline for decorating coincides with the date of the Holiday Walk, which is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. in the village’s downtown area.

The Clarendon Hills Fire Department is sponsoring a toy drive at 5 p.m. and is inviting visitors to climb in the department’ ladder truck.

Those wanting to participate in the toy drive are asked to bring an unwrapped present to share with a child in need.

The Clarendon Hills Child Welfare Society will be selling Luminaria kits at 5 p.m. to be used Christmas Eve around the village and raise funds for the Society. The Clarendon Hills Child Welfare Society has sold luminaria to light the streets of the village on every Christmas Eve and raise funds for infant welfare for more than 50 years.

Attendees  of the Holiday Walk are encouraged by the Chamber of Commerce to do local shopping from 5 to 6 p.m., at which time there will be a tree lighting in front of Village Hall, 1 N. Prospect Ave.

Professional artist Norine Guy will do face painting from 6:15 to 8 p.m. at the Sloane Triangle, Prospect and Park Avenues.
The Triangle also will be the site of a 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. visit from Santa. Parents are encouraged to take photos of their children with Santa.

Free horse-drawn carriage rides again will be available from 6 to 9 p.m., north of the railroad tracks, at Golf and Burlington Avenues, near Village Hall.
