Comedian, actor, writer and director Bobcat Goldthwait, who starred in the “Police Academy” movie franchise and also played opposite Bill Murray in the 1988 film “Scrooged,” in April sold his four-bedroom, 2,999-square-foot home on 3.27 acres in west suburban Winfield for $750,000.
A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Goldthwait, 62, told the Tribune’s Rick Kogan last year that he had lived in California for 35 years before moving to the Chicago suburbs several years ago so his girlfriend could be near her parents. Through an opaque land trust, Goldthwait paid $445,750 in early 2021 for the house. Then, in 2023, Goldthwait paid another $175,000 for a vacant lot next door, meaning that in total, he paid $620,750 for the combined properties.
In February, Goldthwait listed the contemporary-style house and the adjoining vacant lot for $775,000, and he went under contract to sell less than a week later. He ultimately sold for $25,000 below his asking price.
Built in 1979, the house has floor-to-ceiling windows, vaulted ceilings, and an updated kitchen with granite countertops and an island with a farmhouse sink. The home also has a first-floor primary suite with a heated bathroom floor and an open loft area with a floor-to-ceiling bookcase on the second floor.
Outside on the property are a deck and a private backyard.
Listing agent Julie Anne of eXp Realty declined to comment on the sale or where Goldthwait now is headed.
The properties that Goldthwait sold had a combined $17,375 property tax bill in the 2023 tax year.
