Crown Point seeks entries for City-Wide Garage Sale

The City of Crown Point is now accepting entries for their City-Wide Garage Sale to be held June 6-9. Crown Point residents are invited to register their home for the sale by visiting https://www.crownpoint.in.gov/550/City-Wide-Garage-Sale. The deadline to register is Friday. All entries and a map of the sale will be posted on the City of Crown Point’s website, www.crownpoint.in.gov, and the City of Crown Point Facebook page. For more information, call  219-661-2271.

Youth group to host suicide prevention awareness event

A newly formed Portage Township Youth Advisory Committee will host Walk With Me, an event to raise awareness about suicide prevention, mental health issues and substance abuse, at 6 p.m. Friday at Haven Hollow Park, 330 W. 700 N, Valparaiso. The Youth Advisory Committee includes five Portage High School students: Nevaeh Shively, senior; Leylany Rivera, junior; Lexi Labonte, senior; Ashlyn Gentry, sophomore; and Tia Shively, senior. Walk With Me is sponsored by Portage Township Trustee Brendan Clancy and the Portage Township Parks Department. The event will include a walk around the park’s trail lined with bags containing messages or memorials written by participants, sharing circles led by professionals, speakers, a bonfire hosted by the South Haven Fire Department and food trucks. The Committee will be recruiting members throughout the summer to amplify the teen voice in Portage Township. Students in grades nine through 12 are invited to attend the committee’s next meeting at 3 p.m., June 24 at Haven Hollow. For more information, call 219-759-5471.

Market on the Square to open for the season

The first Portage Market on the Square will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. June 7 at Founders Park Square, 6300 W. Main St, Portage. Open every Friday through August, the market will feature produce for purchase from area farmers, food trucks, artisan vendors, crafters, a splash pad, kids zone, pony rides, a full beer garden and live music beginning at 6 p.m. In addition, the Market will host Friday Movie Nights with a different feature film each week starting at dusk. Annual wine tasting fundraiser

Sixteen Pearls Foundation, Inc., and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Inc. will hold their annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser from 7 to 10 p.m. June 7 at The Aquatorium, 6918 Oak Ave., Gary. The evening will include a sampling of fine wines, refreshments, door prizes, and live music by Will Miller and the Jazz Gang featuring Aziza Lisa. Must be 21 to attend. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased from any member of the Gamma Psi Omega Chapter or by sending payment via Zelle to sixteenpearlsfoundation@gmail.com. Block Party in the Park fundraiser

Valpo Parks Foundation will host Block Party in the Park for ages 21-plus, from 6 to 9 p.m. June 7 at the William E. Urschel Pavilion at Central Park Plaza, 70 Lafayette St., Valparaiso. Tickets are $75, which includes food, entertainment, games, a 50-50 raffle and other prizes. Live music will be provided by 90s party band Run Forrest Run and acoustic artist Ally Christian. Local food trucks The Lunchbox, Grill Bill and Southshore Ovenworks will be on site. There also will be a cash bar with complimentary soda and water available. Seating will be provided, but feel free to bring your own for added comfort. Purchase tickets at ValpoParksFoundation.org. All proceeds will benefit the Valpo Parks Foundation and Valpo Parks, directly impacting community’s parks and recreation programs.

The Society of Innovators at PNW to host book signing

The Society of Innovators at Purdue Northwest will host John H. Davies, the author of “Extraordinary Ordinary Innovators,” for a book signing and networking event from 4 to 6 p.m. June 12 at Anderson’s Winery and Vineyard, 430 E. U.S. Highway 6, Valparaiso. Through his book, Davies aims to inspire everyday people to embrace innovation to improve their lives, communities and country. The event is open to the public. Registration is $25 per person.
