Applications now available for education scholarship

Indiana parents of children with disabilities can now apply for the Indiana Education Scholarship Account (INESA) for the 2024-2025 school year. INESA scholarship funding provides eligible K-12 students access to the educational environment that best meets their learning needs, such as private education, at-home learning and other non-public educational settings that qualify. Parents can use INESA dollars for a variety of qualified expenses for educational support, such as tuition and fees, transportation costs, occupational therapy, tutoring, vocational and life-skills courses and extra-curricular programs. The Indiana legislature appropriates $10 million to fund the INESA program each year. The application deadline is Sept. 1. State Police seeking applicants for polygraph examiner

The Indiana State Police is accepting applications for a Civilian Polygraph Examiner to serve in the Indiana State Police’s Area III, which includes the Bloomington, Evansville and Jasper Districts. Primary responsibility is to support the laboratory’s responsibilities in polygraph examinations and associated court presentation of routine and non-routine cases under general supervision. A Baccalaureate degree or higher is required and the salary starts at $63,869 per year but may be adjusted based on education, experience and training. Dunes Learning Center offers first responder certification course

Dunes Learning Center, in partnership with Wilderness Medical Associates International, will offer a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification course March 25 to 29 at the Dunes Learning Center, 700 Howe Road, Chesterton. Enrollment is now open. The WFR certification is a comprehensive training program designed for those who require the ability to handle emergency situations in remote settings. This includes professional guides, trip leaders, search and rescue team members, outdoor enthusiasts and world travelers. The course fee includes expert instruction, textbooks, equipment use, certification and continuing education credits. Participants are advised to enroll as soon as possible to ensure ample time to complete the e-learning section before the in-person training. The course will feature lectures, practical skills exercises, and patient simulations, conducted both indoors and outdoors, despite weather conditions. The cost of the program is $999 for the Basic Package, which includes program fee and meals; or $1,199 for the Full Package that includes program fee, meals and overnight lodging. IU Northwest offers presentations for business owners, entrepreneurs

Indiana University Northwest’s Business Academy, in the School of Business and Economics, hosts its 2024 Business Speakers Series. Small business owners and entrepreneurs are invited to attend these free, monthly presentations that cover topics ranging from bookkeeping to marketing. All presentations are from 9 a.m. until Noon in the Bergland Auditorium in the Savannah Center on campus, 3400 Broadway, Gary. Networking opportunities will follow. “Accounting Made Simple” led by CPA Anna Burke will take place on Friday. Burke will discuss setting up your books correctly to avoid complications and to minimize the risk of an audit. This presentation is offered in collaboration with Indiana Small Business Development Center.

PNW hosts Women’s History Month events

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) commemorates Women’s History Month throughout March with a slate of events that highlights chapters in women’s history, features guest speakers, addresses women’s issues and celebrates women leaders. PNW’s College of Nursing will host a Women’s Historical Health Achievements health fair event from Noon to 3 p.m. Thursday at the SULB Concourse, 2200 169th St., Hammond. Nursing students and faculty will offer educational resources on pertinent topics for college-age women, including stress relief, eating habits, physical activity and breast cancer awareness. Several PNW Women’s History Month events are open to the public and reflect various themes.
