CAC celebrates local artists in Members’ Exhibit

Chesterton Art Center (CAC) is shining a spotlight on the work of their creative and supportive members with the Annual Members’ Exhibit, on display through Jan. 11 at 115 S. Fourth St., Chesterton. Featuring hundreds of artworks in a wide array of media, including painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, glass, wood and ceramics, this exhibition highlights the diverse and exceptional talents of CAC’s members who represent a vibrant and growing creative community in the region. Many pieces will be available for purchase at a variety of price points for special gift opportunities. With member support, CAC builds a creative community with art education, outreach, exhibits and events year-round. South Shore Line Notre Dame football service

To accommodate passengers attending the University of Notre Dame vs. Indiana University College Football Playoff game on Friday, the South Shore Line will provide free shuttle bus service between the South Bend International Airport and Notre Dame Stadium as follows: Train No. 7 arrives at the Airport at 11:46 a.m. ET and Train No. 11 will leave at 3:42 p.m. ET. Train No. 111, which typically terminates in Michigan City, will make a special trip to the Airport on Friday, arriving at 4:50 p.m. ET. Passengers may then board a shuttle bus near the South Shore train platform and will be dropped off at the IU School of Medicine building on campus, 1234 N. Notre Dame Ave, South Bend. Following the game, an extra train will run departing the Airport 90 minutes following the conclusion of the game. The shuttle bus will stage at the drop-off location on campus and leave with passengers one hour after the conclusion of the game to return to the airport. Smith to host 36th annual Spirit of Christmas event

State Rep. Vernon G. Smith (D-Gary) will host the 36th annual Spirit of Christmas gift giveaway from Noon to 3 p.m. Monday at the Calumet Township Multi-Purpose Center, 1900 W. 41st Ave., Gary. Co-hosted by 6th District Councilman of the City of Gary, Dwight A. Williams, the Spirit of Christmas is held in honor of Reverend Julia E. Smith who served as pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, and Patricia Tillotson, a former educator in the Gary School Corporation. Gary Public Library to present classical concert

Gary Public Library and Cultural Center Will host a classical concert from 3 to 5 p.m. Dec. 29 at  220 W. Fifth Ave., Gary. The Fifth Sundays monthly concert is co-sponsored by the Gary Civic Symphony Orchestra and the Gary Historical and Cultural Society, Inc. Entrance will be on the north side only, free admission and free parking in the north parking lot. The library will be closed; no library services will be available. www.garypubliclibrary.org.

Interurban Trolley Presentation, South Shore Brass Concert

The Valparaiso Chain of Lakes Watershed Group and the Porter County Museum are sponsoring an audio-visual presentation and brass band concert exploring the history of the Valparaiso and Northern Interurban Railroad at 2 p.m. Jan. 12 at First Christian Church, 1507 E. Glendale Road, Valparaiso. The event coincides with an exhibit at the Porter County Museum, “The V&N: Porter County’s Electric Interurban Rail Line.” The 30-piece South Shore Brass Band has teamed up with the Valparaiso Chain of Lakes Watershed Group and Porter County Museum to preset this historical presentation including a live musical program and period dancers from the Indiana Ballet Theatre covering the era from 1911 to 1938, the heyday of the Interurban railroad.
