Having carved out a reputation as a snow sculptor, former Arlington Heights and Elgin resident Fran Volz has worked in myriad mediums. One of his latest is straw. His art using straw inspired the U.S. National Straw Sculpting Competition underway in Mt. Morris, Illinois.
