In 2022, there were 2,000 deaths, surpassing the previous record of 1,935 deaths in 2021. The large majority of deaths involved fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. In 2015, there were 676 recorded deaths.
