Cop, civilian wounded in shooting in Humboldt Park neighborhood

A Chicago police officer and a civilian were each wounded Thursday evening in a police shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

The shooting happened just after 6 p.m. near West Ferdinand Street and Avers Avenue, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

An officer was taken to Stroger Hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford. An adult male was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition from gunshots, Langford said.

A second officer was also taken to an area hospital for a minor issue, Langford added.

No details regarding the shooting were immediately available, but police were expected to hold an evening news conference at the scene.
