Cops warn of armed female carjacker in red coat and fur hood in South Shore neighborhood

Chicago police issued a community alert Tuesday afternoon warning residents of the South Shore neighborhood about a female carjacker donning a red coat with a fur hood.

Police said the carjacker approaches victims while they are seated in or standing near their vehicle, and pulls out a gun before announcing a robbery and making off with their vehicle.

In recent days, at least three carjackings were reported with the female’s description in the South Shore neighborhood, according to the alert.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Dec. 16, a victim was carjacked in the 6900 block of South Paxton Avenue. Shortly after 1 a.m. Dec. 21, another victim was carjacked in the 2000 block of East 70th Street. Around 8:45 p.m. Dec. 28, a third person was carjacked in the 6400 block of South Maryland Avenue, police said.

The carjacker was described as an African American female wearing a red coat with a fur hood, a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and a ski mask.
