A woman from Cortland died following a crash in Aurora on Wednesday between a motorcycle and an SUV, police said.
According to an Aurora Police Department press release, police learned on Thursday that Nicole Ross, 29, of Cortland, a passenger on the motorcycle, died due to injuries sustained in the crash.
At 5:02 p.m. Wednesday, Aurora police were dispatched to Butterfield Road and Savannah Drive in the city due to a traffic crash.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicates a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling eastbound on Butterfield Road and attempted to make a U-turn, according to the release. While turning, a 1990 Harley Davidson motorcycle, traveling eastbound on Butterfield Road, was unable to stop and struck the driver’s side of the SUV, police said.
Two people were riding on the motorcycle, a 30-year-old male driver from Batavia and Ross, who was a passenger, according to the release.
The driver was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest off the roadway, the release stated, while the passenger was ejected into the westbound lanes of Butterfield Road, where she collided with a westbound vehicle, police said.
Both people who were on the motorcycle were transported to a local hospital by Aurora Fire Department paramedics. The driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while the passenger, Ross, was treated for life-threatening injuries and died on Thursday, according to the release.
The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban, a 37-year-old woman from Naperville, and her passenger, a 37-year-old man from North Aurora, were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
The Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division responded to the scene to investigate the crash and Butterfield Road remained closed for several hours while traffic investigators reconstructed the scene, officials said.
