Gary man faces up to 16 years for hitting two men with vehicle outside Schererville bar
A Gary man faces up to 16 years in a plea deal for hitting two men with a vehicle outside a Schererville bar in 2019.
Carl Vaughn, Jr., 31, admitted April 25 to aggravated battery and battery by means of a deadly weapon.
His sentencing hearing is scheduled on June 12.
Updated court documents show Vaughn got into an argument with the two men outside Longshots, 2251 U.S. 41 on Sept. 19, 2019.
One man knocked Vaughn to the ground, before Vaughn got into a vehicle and hit him in a nearby parking lot. He hit a second man on the way out, documents state.
Chicago man charged with altering $3,500 check from Gary Public Library
A Chicago man is charged after altering and cashing a $3,500 check from the Gary Public Library’s downtown branch.
Demetrius Franklin, 44, is charged with fraud.
He has not been apprehended. When arrested, he is ordered held on a $1,000 cash bond.
A library account manager told police that the check she wrote June 8, 2024 to Quality Mechanical, Inc. in Harvey, Illinois. They never got it.
Along the way, Franklin allegedly took it out of the mail, “washed” it and deposited it into his own bank account.
