A man was killed and six other people were wounded in shooting at a prayer vigil in Little Village Saturday night, according to Chicago police.
Police said around 10 p.m. a Jeep approached a residence in the 2500 block of South Spaulding Avenue. The vigil was occurring in the residence’s front yard. A person got out of the Jeep and began shooting, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The seven victims transported themselves to Mount Sinai Hospital, authorities said. A 32-year-old man, later identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Froylan Garcia, was declared dead at the hospital.
The six victims who survived were men between the ages of 31 and 51, police said. They were all listed in fair condition.
As of early Sunday, no one was in custody, and Chicago police detectives were investigating.
Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez, 25th, issued a statement on Sunday about the shooting.
“This is a community concern and the 25th Ward office will continue to keep in touch with the block,” the statement said.
