A Chicago police officer shot an armed man during an exchange of gunfire just after midnight on Saturday in Brighton Park, police said.
Police responded to a local business in the 3900 block of S Kedzie Avenue at approximately 12:20 a.m. after having received a 911 call reporting an aggravated assault and a person with a gun.
When police arrived, the man pulled out his gun, which he discharged after officers tried to disarm him, police said. An officer then returned fire and shot the man, who was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
No officers were injured.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is now conducting an investigation of the incident and the use of force by the officer, police said. Officers identified as being involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days.
