CPD officer shot in Englewood neighborhood, according to Fire Department

A Chicago police officer was shot and wounded Thursday in the Englewood neighborhood, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The shooting occurred in the 5600 block of South Shields Avenue shortly after noon.

The officer was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center by fellow officer while paramedics took another person, believed to be the offender, to Stroger Hospital, spokesperson Larry Langford told the Tribune. He did not give conditions on either person.

Chicago police did not immediately release any details about the shooting. Officers closed off South Shields Avenue between 56th Place and 57th Street Thursday afternoon as detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and other evidence.
