The Crown Point City Council gave the proposed Greenview at Summertree subdivision the green light on Aug. 5, paving the way for 199 new homes.
The approximately 60-acre Planned Unit Development (PUD), located on a former golf course in the vicinity of 101st Avenue and Colorado Street, received preliminary plan approval. The matter had been deferred since June while the developer Olthoff Homes and the city worked out various details.
Olthoff can now move forward with more detailed planning and permitting while continuing to address concerns of residents living near the development. Several residents addressed the council Monday, concerned with the amount of construction-related traffic going past their homes in addition to the local traffic the development will create long term. Residents suggested a separate gravel road be constructed strictly for construction traffic.
Greenview at Summertree features a mix of single family and paired cottage homes, offering 16 different home styles and options, according to representatives for Olthoff. They noted that impact on adjacent residential areas will be diminished as the development will build out over the next 5-10 years, with the first home expected to be built in 2025. Home prices will begin at about $325,000 and exceed $500,000 for single family units.
In other action, the council approved rezoning a residential area at 106 E. Indiana 8 (U.S. 231) for business use. The rezoning will make way for the construction of a medical office building.
The city also named its Fourth of July parade winners: First place, Boy and Cub Scouts; second place, Oasis Pools; and third place, Performance Horseback Riding.
