Police arrested a Crown Point man Wednesday after he crashed his car into the median on Interstate 65 and they reportedly found fentanyl and other drugs in his vehicle.
Alex R. Parks, 31, was transported to Lake County Jail on a Level 4 felony charge of possession of a narcotic drug and three misdemeanor counts related to drug possession, including two counts of possession of a controlled substance; one count of possession of marijuana; and one count of possession of paraphernalia, according to a release from the Indiana State Police, Lowell Post.
Lt. Terrance Weems was driving northbound on I-65 near the 257 mile marker just south of Ridge Road in Lake County on Aug. 14 when he observed a red Dodge pickup truck crash into the center median wall, and then leave the scene.
Weems activated his emergency lights and made a traffic stop on the Dodge about a mile north of where the crash occurred, police said.
During the traffic stop investigation, troopers determined there was probable cause to conduct a vehicle search. Trooper Brandon Lankford arrived at the scene and assisted Weems with the investigation.
As a result of the vehicle search, police said they found a large amount of controlled substances, including fentanyl, marijuana, Xanax, amphetamine and dextroamphetamine.
