Indiana Gov. Mike Braun selected Dan Burke as a Lake County civil judge.
Burke is currently a Lake Circuit Court referee – overseeing divorce cases and protection, i.e. restraining orders and other civil cases. He was a previous Lake County Deputy Prosecutor. His work there included felonies and murder cases.
He will replace Judge Stephen Scheele, who was appointed to the Indiana Court of Appeals in December.
“Daniel Burke is an exceptional lawyer who will bring his years of experience in the courtroom to his new role on the Lake County Superior Court,” Braun said in a statement. “He is hard working, dedicated to the rule of law, and will do Lake County proud.”
He earned a classical studies undergraduate degree from DePauw University and a law degree from Valparaiso University.
“As a lifelong resident of Lake County, I am humbled by the opportunity to continue serving my community,” Burke said in a release. “Lake County is a unique and special place, and I look forward to serving her people as long as they will have me.”
He, his wife and three kids live in Crown Point.
A date for his swearing-in is not yet set.
