DePaul upsets Georgetown 71-67 in the first round of the Big East Tournament behind NJ Benson’s 18 points

NEW YORK — NJ Benson scored 18 points off the bench to help No. 10 seed DePaul knock off seventh-seeded Georgetown 71-67 in the first round of the Big East Tournament on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.

DePaul (14-18) will play No. 2 seed Creighton in a quarterfinal at 6 p.m. Thursday (FS1).

Layden Blocker scored 16 points while going 4 for 6 from 3-point range and added six assists, and CJ Gunn added 11 points for the Blue Demons.

Micah Peavy led the Hoyas (17-15) with 26 points, Drew Fielder added 11 points and 11 rebounds and Curtis Williams also scored 11.
