A student at District U-46’s Dream Academy was arrested Monday on charges they brought a gun into the Elgin school building.
Elgin police and the resource officer assigned to the school were notified that a student might have a weapon about 4:45 p.m., according to a news release posted to Facebook by the Elgin Police Department.
The school-based officer was able to recover the firearm and arrest the student without incident, the post said.
The student, who is identified as a gang member but not named because they are a juvenile, was charged with one count each of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon at school, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member and two counts each of possession of a firearm without and FOID and possession of firearm ammunition without an FOID.
The student is being held in the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center pending a future court date, the post said.
