The drive-up window at Vernon Area Public Library in Lincolnshire closed last month for improvement work but is expected to reopen in the coming weeks, according to a library news release.
According to the release, visitors will find the window easier to pull up to and easier to reach when the project is completed.
Catherine Savage, Vernon Area Public Library District spokeswoman, told Pioneer Press that southwest suburban Oak Lawn-based Construction Solutions of Illinois, was selected through competitive bidding to do the drive-up service window work and is expected to have it completed later this month.
Savage said the project is expected to cost $47,723, which is being paid for from the library’s Special Reserve Fund – money set aside specifically for library capital needs or emergency expenditures.
During construction, reserved library items are available for pickup inside the building, the release states. Also closed during construction is the book return on the exterior wall of the library building.
Officials explained in the release that patrons wishing to pick up reserved items without entering the building may call for curbside service upon arrival.
Officials noted in the release that a freestanding drive-up return box is available on the left side of the circle drive near the library entrance.
Additional remote return locations are available in The Grove shopping center at Lake Cook at Old McHenry roads in Buffalo Grove or outside Sunset Foods in Long Grove, the release explains.
Officials added in the release that materials also may be returned inside the building.
“Construction will end by 3 p.m. each day; patrons wishing to avoid the added commotion may want to plan accordingly,” officials stated in the release.
According to its website, Vernon Area Public Library directly serves the 42,000 residents of Lincolnshire and unincorporated Prairie View, most of Long Grove, and portions of Buffalo Grove, Riverwoods and Vernon Hills.
