Niles police responded Sunday morning at about 8:38 a.m. to the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Maryand Street, just south of Golf Mill Shopping Center, where a pedestrian had been hit, they said.
The 86-year-old man, from Niles, had been trying to cross Milwaukee Avenue from west to east when he was struck by a 2017 Toyota RAV 4 driven by a 66-year-old Northbrook man, police said in a news release. The Toyota was heading southeast on Milwaukee in the curb lane.
The Niles Fire Department took the pedestrian to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:05 a.m.
Milwaukee Avenue and Maryland were closed in both directions while police conducted an investigation. The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) is assisting the Niles Police Department.
