Driver pronounced dead in overnight accident in South Chicago neighborhood

A driver of a Chevy Equinox was pronounced dead overnight after striking a pole in the South Chicago neighborhood. Chicago police said.

Shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday, the victim was driving in the 8600 block of South Commercial Avenue when he struck a pole, police said. He was taken in critical condition to UChicago Medicine where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives were investigating.
