Elburn has joined the Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
For the bureau, it is a chance to expand from 10 to 11 communities, and to expand its regional footprint.
For Elburn, it is a way for the village in western Kane County to become more of a regional draw.
“The village of Elburn is excited to start with new relationship with the (bureau) and show visitors what Elburn has to offer,” said Elburn Mayor Jeffrey D. Walter.
Cort Carlson, Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director, said the move will coincide with the interchange of Interstate 88 and Route 47 moving to become the next major growth location in the western suburbs, including hotel development.
“Elburn has attractions that we are thrilled to incorporate in our destination, including a terrific brewery and a well- known meat market in its downtown,” Carlson said. “Welcoming Elburn as the 11th community on our roster will help position the village as a charming new destination for travelers and overnight getaways.”
The other 10 communities in the bureau’s area are Aurora, Batavia, Big Rock, Hinkley, Montgomery, North Aurora, Oswego, Plano, Sugar Grove and Yorkville.
Elburn, with a population of 6,676, is in the heart of Kane County, at the end of the Metra’s Union Pacific Railroad West Line.
The Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, which is certified by the state of Illinois, is charged with enhancing the economic and environmental well-being of the 11 communities in its area.
It promotes the region as a leisure destination to travelers throughout the Midwest and beyond, officials said. It also encourages organizations to hold meetings, conventions, trade shows and sporting events in the area.
