Phil Aleo day at Dundee Library Sept. 12

State Rep. Suzanne Ness, D-Crystal Lake, will be presenting local author Phil Aleo with a house resolution honoring his works at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave., East Dundee.

Aleo’s works preserve local history and tell the stories of local communities in Illinois and the United States, according to a news release. Several of his books have been given to the Illinois State Library in Springfield.

Pancake breakfast fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Association at Rakow Center

The Dundee Township Park District, Carpentersville Police Department and the Carpentersville Firefighters Union will be hosting a pancake breakfast to raise money for Alzheimer’s and dementia research from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sept. 13 at the Adult Activities Center at the Rakow Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.

The all-you-can-eat break­fast will consist of pancakes, sausage and refreshments, according to the Park District’s website. The cost is $5, cash only, on the day of the event. Proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Association. For more information, call 847-551-4307 or email mstallings@dtpd.org.

West Dundee Heritage Fest 

Heritage Fest takes place once again Sept. 13 through Sept. 15 in downtown West Dundee.

The free festival gets underway from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday. The night will feature food and beverage sales, live music, a business expo and a fireworks show at 8:30 p.m., according to the event website.

Saturday’s events include a Lions Club run and walk from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.; an arts and crafts fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; a car show from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m; food and beverage sales and live music from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and a business expo from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday will feature a Lions Club pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.; live music from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; an arts and crafts fair and a business expo, both from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; a car show from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, go to  www.wdundeeheritagefest.org/.

Exercise for a cause at Anderson Humane’s 9th Annual Walk4Animals 5K

Anderson Humane will be holding its ninth annual Walk4Animals 5K run and 1.65 mile walk on Sept. 14 around the Batavia Riverwalk starting and ending at the Peg Bond Center, 151 N. Island Ave., Batavia.

Participants are welcome to bring their dogs along with them, according to a news release.  Registration is 6:45 a.m. for runners, and the run beginning at 8 a.m. Registration for walkers starts at 7:45 a.m., with the walk beginning at 9 a.m.

To register in advance, go to runsignup.com/Race/IL/Batavia/Walk4Animals5KRunWalk. Pre-registration is available until 11:59 p.m. on Sept 13. Run registration is $45 in advance and $60 the day of the event. Pre- and day-of registration for the walk is $25.

Elgin Community College Foundation hosting annual gala to celebrate 75 years of achievements

The Elgin Community College Foundation invites the community to celebrate 75 years of the achievements of students, faculty and staff at the ECC Foundation Gala: Decades of Dreams event at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 14  at the Q Center, 1405 N. 5th Ave., St. Charles.

The event will also mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of the ECC Foundation, according to a news release.

The event proceeds go toward the Resources for Excellence Fund, which supports the areas of greatest student need, including emergency assistance and scholarship awards.

Tickets for the event, which includes the ECC student showcase, a live auction and dinner, are $175.
