An Elgin man has been charged with first-degree murder in the July 2 stabbing death of a woman at his home.
Police learned of the death after the daughter of 65-year-old Timothy Edwards notified Elgin police about a possible domestic incident at her father’s home in the 1300 block of Fleetwood Drive, according to a news release issued by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Elgin Police Department.
Edwards met police at the door of his apartment and he showed officers to the bedroom where the woman, identified in court records as Cheryl Aricioglu, was laying. She had no pulse and was not breathing and was later pronounced dead at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, the release said.
Described as a “domestic-related” incident by police, how Edwards and Aricioglu knew each other or what might have led to the knife attack has not been disclosed. No age or address for Aricioglu was available.
An autopsy conducted by the Kane County Coroner’s Office determined the victim was stabbed multiple times in the chest and had defensive wounds on both hands.
Edwards was charged in court on Friday, and will return for a hearing Wednesday at which a judge will decide if he will remain in jail pending the outcome of his case.
