Elgin man faces 4 counts of gunrunning after ATF/police probe into illegal gun sales

An Elgin man accused of illegally selling 18 firearms and three machine gun conversion devices in Kane County in 2023 has been arrested on felony gunrunning charges, according to the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.

Graham Green, 24, was arrested March 4 by the Elgin Police Department following an investigation conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Elgin police that was referred to the general attorney for prosecution, a news release said.

The gun sales reportedly took place between September and December 2023. Green has been charged with two counts of class X felony gunrunning, two counts of class 1 felony gunrunning, one count of class 2 felony unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of class 2 felony unlawful possession of a weapon, the release said.

“I will not tolerate illegal gun sales that fuel violence and often deadly criminal activities in communities throughout Illinois,” Attorney General Kwame Raoul said in a statement. “These charges are the result of a collaborative effort between my office, federal entities and local law enforcement agencies to address gun trafficking and violence in our communities.”

Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley lauded the “cooperative efforts between our department and the ATF (that) resulted in substantial charges against Mr. Green.”

The Attorney General’s Office and the Kane County State’s Attorney Office will prosecute the case together.
