Bryan Maculitis honored as police officer of year in East Dundee
Bryan Maculitis is East Dundee’s Police Officer of the Year.
Police Chief Josh Fourdyce presented Maculitis with the honor at the Feb. 17 East Dundee Village Board meeting, according to the village newsletter.
Maculitis joined the police department as a part-time officer in 2021 and went full time two years later. Prior to coming to East Dundee, he worked for the Lakemoor Police Department, where his duties included being an evidence custodian.
Maculitis assumed that same role in East Dundee, and is set to become a detective this summer, according to the release.
Mother/Son Superhero Night to be held at Schock Centre
The Elgin Parks and Recreation Department will hold a Mother/Son Superhero Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the Ed Schock Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.
Attendees are encouraged to dress like their favorite superheroes, according to a social media post. Activities will include using the climbing wall like Spider-Man, superhero-themed games, crafts and treats.

Author to speak about Black women in history at museum
Amira Davis will present selections from and lead a discussion about her book, “Jalimusa: An Epic Tale of Black Women’s Mothering,” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd. in Lords Park.
Davis, who describes a “jalimusa” as a “cultural storyteller,” also will perform songs, talk about historical Black women and address such issues as representation, educational and maternal activism, aging, reproductive rights and spirituality, according to the website for Illinois Humanities, which is sponsoring the free event.

Rich Treiber resigns from East Dundee Village Board
Rich Treiber has resigned from the East Dundee Village Board, effective Monday, March 3.
Treiber, who served for almost four years, announced his resignation at the Feb. 17 board meeting, according to the East Dundee newsletter. He said he is stepping down because he and his family are moving out of town.
Treiber was appointed by Village President Jeff Lynam in 2021 and elected to a full term in April 2023.
“His steadfast commitment to supporting local businesses and fostering growth within the village has been a hallmark of his service,” the newsletter said.
The village president is expected appoint Treiber’s successor, who will hold the job the term expires in April 2027.
Kane climate action plan meeting to be held Monday
Kane County officials will provide an overview of the county’s Climate Action Implementation Plan from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 3, at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. 6th Ave.
The plan was approved by the Kane County Board in June 2024, and a team put in place to implement it in August. The voluntary plan is to serve as a guide for Kane communities in developing their own initiatives and goals toward reducing carbon emissions, a county newsletter said.

Shamrocks for Charity buttons on sale in East Dundee area
Shamrocks for Charity buttons are on sale at various East Dundee-area bars, restaurants, businesses and organizations to raise money for the McNamee Foundation, which donates procees to the D300 and FISH food pantries.
The 3-inch buttons cost $5 each and will be on sale through St. Patrick’s Day on Monday, March 17. Since 2018, the initiative has collected more than $37,000 for the area food pantries.
Local establishments submit button designs every year and the foundation holds a contest that awards a trophy for the best one.
