Program on ’70s women singer-songwriters planned at museum
Elgin Public Museum Director Sharry Blazier will present a program on “Women Singer-Songwriters of the 1970s: Their Lives, Their Music” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 27.
Among the artists Blazier will discuss are Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Carly Simon and Janis Ian, according to a news release. She will share the personal stories of the major artists of that era and discuss how they crafted their music.
Admission is $3 for museum members, $5 for nonmembers. The museum is located at 225 Grand Blvd. in Lords Park.

Dundee Township Park District holding youth pickleball clinics
Dundee Township Park District will present youth pickleball clinics from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, March 31-April 1, in the Rakow Center gym, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.
The two clinics are open to ages 8 through 17 and will focus on eye-hand coordination, pickleball equipment, footwork, drills and games, according to a social media post.

Bunny Burrow Express trolley rides offered April 5, 12 and 19
Fox River Trolley Museum’s Bunny Burrow Express will be making runs to a secret rabbit warren on three Saturdays, April 5, 12 and 19, at the Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve, 35W003 Route 31, South Elgin.
The antique trolley car rides will include egg hunts and other seasonal fun, according to the museum’s website. Children will receive souvenir baskets to collect eggs.
Train trips last about 75 minutes and depart at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets cost $30.

Elgin HS alum receives prestigious martial arts honor
David Lee Garrison, Elgin High School class of 1975, has received the Living Legend Pioneer Grandmaster award from the World Mudo Federation.
The federation was formed in 1993 by 75 martial arts masters from around the world to unify the community and work together toward world peace, according to the group’s website.
Garrison is the owner and operator of Barrington Tiger Academy, a traditional, family-focused mixed martial arts school that opened in 1984. He is an 11-time black Belt Grand Champion, whose career includes induction into the Asian Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2016, Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2015, USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2008 and World Mudo Federation Hall of Fame in 2006.
