Carpentersville seeking vet images for Main Street banners

Carpentersville is seeking the images of military veterans to display on village banners along Main Street in November.

Photos can be of residents or village employees living or deceased who served in the military, according to a village social media post.

The information needed includes the name of the person as it should appear on the banner, years of service if known and branch of military in which they served as well as a high-resolution headshot to be featured on the banner.

Anyone who submitted information and a photo last year does not need to provide the information again. Those banners will be displayed again, officials said.

East Dundee demolishing two houses on Van Buren Street

East Dundee is in the process of demolishing two houses at 2 and 4 N. Van Buren St. that the village purchased in 2023.

The structures are on the east side of Van Buren and just north of Van Buren’s intersection with Main Street, according to village information. According to the Dundee Township Assessor’s Office, East Dundee paid $205,000 for the two adjacent properties.

The site will be used for new development but there are no current plans in the works, officials said.

America’s First Responders Fest in South Elgin this Saturday

America’s First Responders Fest will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at South Elgin’s Panton Mill Park, 10 N. Water St.

Now in its third year, the fest salutes local police officers, firefighters and other first responders, according the event’s website. There will be live music, children’s activities, a car show and vendor booths, including those selling food and beverages.

Acts scheduled to perform are Deacon Frost, Ricky Lindy & the Wild Ones, Jimmy Nick and Junkyard Groove. The gathering will be broadcast live on WRMN (1410-AM).

Fill the Truck Food Drive to benefit Journey of Hope in Elgin

Journey of Hope, a United Methodist community, will be holding a “Fill the Truck Food Drive” for All Peoples Interfaith Food Pantry and collecting items for a Native American reservation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, on its Elgin campus, 37W040 Highland Ave.

Donations of nonperishable canned food items and money will be accepted, according to a news release. Donations of small stuffed animals, school supplies, hats, mittens and toys to be given to children at Spirit Lake Reservation in North Dakota will be collected at the same time.
