Dinosaur fossils event being held July 18 at Elgin’s Rakow Branch library
T-Rexplorers will present a “Dinosaur Discovery!” program with authentic dinosaur fossils from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 18, outside the Gail Borden Public Library District’s Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Road, Elgin.
“T-Rexplorers is a unique, science based dinosaur discovery program,” according to the organization’s Facebook page. “Our educational programs are built around allowing children the opportunity to handle and examine authentic dinosaur fossils.”

Rib challenge to take place at The Assembly in West Dundee
The Assembly American Bar & Cafe in Wests Dundee will be holding the Northwest Rib Fest, an event at which the restaurant has challenged four other local restaurants to determine who serves the best ribs, from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18.
Other restaurants taking part are Coleman’s BBQ from Elgin, Diamond Jim’s from East Dundee, Double R BBQ from Pingree Grove and Randall Roadhouse from Carpentersville, according to The Assembly’s Facebook page.
Tickets to sample ribs and vote for who has the best ones are $29.99. The Assembly is located at 901 W. Main St.. For more information, call 847-252-3993.
Public information meeting on proposed Elgin bridge projects planned
The city of Elgin will hold a public information meeting on proposed improvements to the Chicago and Kimball street bridges from 6 to 8 p.m.Thursday, July 18, at The Ed Schock Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about and share feedback on potential bridge and Fox River Trail improvements, according to the website for the projects. A Spanish interpreter will be present during the event to assist with translation.
