Dundee florist holding ‘Merry Swiftmas’ birthday celebration
“Merry Swiftness,” a free event celebrating the holiday season and pop superstar Taylor Swift’s birthday, will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Larkin Floral, 1955 Huntley Road, West Dundee.
A sensory friendly gathering will be held from 5:30 to 6 p.m. for those who prefer a quieter, less crowded experience followed by a party for the general public from 6 to 8 p.m. with booths related to Swift’s Era’s tour, according the the business’ Facebook page. Each one will have a child-friendly giveaway item and will be selling unique, themed gifts for all ages.
A craft station for making friendship bracelets, flower crowns and other Swift-related items will be set up, floral backdrops and props available for photos, and live acoustic covers of Swift’s hits, the post said.

ESO presenting holiday concerts this weekend at Hemmens
The Elgin Symphony Orchestra will be presenting its annual holiday spectacular at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin.
Performances will include traditional carols, new spins on modern holiday favorites and an appearance by Santa Claus, according to the ESO website. The concert will be under the direction of conductor Chad Goodman. It will feature the Elgin Master Chorale and the Integrity School of Dance.

Carpentersville Rotarians hosting free screening of ‘Elf’
The Carpentersville Rotary Club is hosting a free screening of the classic holiday movie, “Elf,” at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Classic Cinemas, 100 LW Besinger Drive, Carpentersville.
Doors open at 9 a.m. so children can play holiday games, do crafts and take free photos with Santa, according to the club’s website. No tickets are needed.

River Street Tavern collecting Legos for Bricks of Hope
River Street Tavern’s Lego collection drive, being held in partnership with Bricks of Hope, is ongoing through Sunday, Dec. 22.
New, unwrapped Lego sets can be dropped off at the pub, 102 N. River St., East Dundee, according to a social media post. Bricks of Hope is a Lake Zurich-based nonprofit that provides Lego sets to children being treated at children’s hospitals in Illinois and Michigan, according to the organization’s website.
