Dundee park district to hold land and water egg hunts
Registration is now open for two Dundee Township Park District egg hunts in March, one on land and one in the water.
The outdoor egg hunt, for children ages 2 to 8, will take place in half-hour time blocks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Randall Oaks Recreation Center, 500 N. Randall Road, West Dundee. If the weather is bad, the event will be moved indoors.
Children’s admission is $5 for Dundee Township residents and $9 for nonresidents. Space is limited. Registration is required and closes Friday, March 22.
Children from infants to age 12 can take part in an aquatic egg hunt from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in the indoor pool at the Rakow Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.
Hunts will be by age and are held in 15-minute increments. Children’s admission is $5 for township residents and $9 for nonresidents.

Elgin library celebrating poetry with March, April events
Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin will celebrate poetry this month and next with a reception for Elgin’s new poet laureate and poetry programs planned for March and April.
Poet Laureate Reception: Meet Elgin’s new Poet Laureate and Gail Borden library staff member Aron Ryan at a reception featuring poetry and light refreshments from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.
Poetry Writers Workshop: Poets will share their work in a supportive environment in a program led by Elgin poet laureate emeritus Gareth Mann scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays, March 4 and April 1, at the main library and virtually via Zoom.
Writers on the Fox: The writer’s peer group will help and motivate writers using prompts and exercises for creative writing of any genre. The group will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays, March 7 and April 4, at the main library and virtually via Zoom.
Poetry Alive: National Poetry Month will be celebrated with Elgin poet laureate emeritus Gareth Mann and other local poets from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at the main library.

South Elgin holding Earth Day park cleanup event
The village of South Elgin is seeking volunteers to help clean up the village from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, as part of its Earth Day celebration.
No registration is required. Participants should meet at 9 a.m. at the shelter in SEBA Park, 151 N. Water St., according to a news release. Breakfast will be served before people head out to help clean village parks.

Subscriptions on sale now for ESO’s 2024-25 season
Subscriptions to the Elgin Symphony Orchestra’s 2024-25 season are now on sale.
The season will be the second for Chad Goodman as ESO music director and the first he will program entirely, according to the symphony’s website.
The six concerts are:
- Ravel’s Bolero on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29;
- Pianist Joyce Yang as soloist for Grieg’s Piano Concerto on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 9-10;
- Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” Symphony on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25-26, 2025;
- Beethoven’s Violin Concerto on Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, 2025;
- The Fifth Symphony of Jean Sibelius on Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6, 2025;
- Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” on Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4, 2025.
Performances are at The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. Tickets for individual concerts go on sale Tuesday, Aug. 27.
