East Dundee’s annual biggest tomato contest set for Saturday
The Dundee Depot Market’s annual Largest Tomato Contest is happening Saturday, Aug. 19, outside its downtown East Dundee building at 319 N. River St.
Free and open to anyone, entries are limited to one tomato per family, according to The Depot Facebook page. Contestants must submit their tomatoes by noon, when judging takes place.
Entries will be judged by weight, with prizes awarded for first, second and third place.

Go Fish 5K run/walk in East Dundee to benefit FISH Food Pantry
A half-mile Go Fish kids’ color run and a 5K run and walk to benefit the FISH Food Pantry will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 310 E. Main St., East Dundee.
Participants will follow the nearby Fox River Trail during the events, according to the Go Fish 5K website, gofish5k.com.
Immanuel Lutheran School teachers will host a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. as part of the fundraiser. A post-race party will include music, food, a book fair and inflatables.

Fundraiser for Forever Home Dog Rescue in East Dundee Saturday
A fundraiser to benefit the nonprofit Forever Home Dog Rescue will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Rosie O’Hare’s Public House, 702 Water St., East Dundee.
The event will feature the acoustic music of John Babin and a silent auction with 70 gift baskets and other items, according to the pub’s Facebook page.

Model T Ford Club hosting 50th annual car show and parade
Fox Valley Chapter Model T Ford Club will host its 50th annual car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, in the Avantara parking lot, 1950 Larkin Ave., Elgin, followed by a parade of vehicles at 3:30 p.m.
Attendance is free but there’s a $10 cost to enter a vehicle, according to the club’s Facebook page. The parade recreates the route the Elgin Road Races followed through the city in the early 20th century.
Cars will caravan from Larkin Avenue west to Coombs Road, north on Highland Avenue, east on McLean Boulevard and north back to Larkin, according to Steve Thoren, a club member and Elgin City Council member.
