Elgin library foundation’s book, media sale starts Wednesday

The Gail Borden Public Library District Foundation’s annual spring book and media sale will be held from Wednesday, March 13, through Sunday, March 17, at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

Admission is $10 for the Wednesday preview night and free on the other days, according to a library news release.

Sales hours are 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 14; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 15-16; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17.

Thousands of items will be for sale, including adult and children’s books, audiobooks, DVDs and CDs. Most items will be priced at $1 or $2, with proceeds helping to support literacy programs and special library exhibits.

Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra presenting three concerts on Sunday

The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra will present three concerts Sunday, March 10, at the Blizzard Theater inside the Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive.

The musi program will explore the theme of “terra nostra,” which is Latin for “our earth,” according to the symphony’s website.

Showtimes are 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.. Tickets are $16 for students, $22 for seniors and $27 for adults. The concerts can also be viewed online.

Black Family Wellness Expo being held at Elgin Community College

A Black Family Wellness Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16 in Building E at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Children, teens and adults can receive the following free services, according to a news release:

  • Health screenings
  • Vaccinations
  • Healthy eating tips;
  • Mental health information;
  • Fitness activities;
  • Information on community resources and services.

Lawyer consultations being offered for free at Dundee Library

Volunteer attorneys from the Kane County Law Library & Self Help Legal Center will be available for free, 15-minute meetings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave., East Dundee.

The attorneys will be able to assist with legal coaching, document review, referrals to other services, eFiling court documents and legal questions, according to a library newsletter.

No registration is needed, and the consultations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Spanish interpreters will be available.
