Elgin library Pride Month exhibit honors LGBTQ+ authors
The Gail Borden Public Library’s Pride Month exhibit honors LGBTQ+ writers whose works have been published from the 1850s to the present.
Among those featured are Walt Whitman, Gertrude Stein, Langston Hughes and Malinda Yo, according to a news release from the Elgin library. A book list also has been put together offering reading suggestions.

‘Super Mario Bros.’ movie being shown Friday at Panton Mill Park
South Elgin will be hosting a free outdoor screening of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” at 6:30 p.m. in Panton Mill Park, 9 N. Water St.
Concessions will be available and activities, including movie bingo offered, before the animated movies is shown starting at dusk.

St. Sophia Greek Fest to feature food, dancing and other activities
St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Elgin will be holding its annual Greek Fest Friday through Sunday, June 7-9.
Authentic Greek food and pastries prepared by St. Sophia parishioners will be sold and other activities include an indoor marketplace, kids’ games, church tours, music and dancing, according to the event’s website.
Fest hours are noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday on church grounds at 525 Church Road.

Duke’s Blues Festival in Carpenter Park set for Friday and Saturday
Duke’s Blues Festival will be held Friday and Saturday, June 7-8, in Carpenter Park, 275 Maple Ave. in Carpentersville.
The free event will feature live music, southern food vendors, a beer tent and other activities, according to its webpage. Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds help support community programs offered through nonprofit Taste The Love.

State reps Ugaste and Keicher sponsoring kids fair Saturday in Geneva
State Reps. Dan Ugaste, R-Geneva, and Jeff Keicher, R-Sycamore, will host an Outside Kids Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Chapelstreet Church, 3435 Keslinger Road in Geneva.
The free event will include giveaways and demonstrations by the Kane County Sheriff K-9 Office, the Traveling World of Reptiles, DancEncounter School of Dance and World Martial Arts Academy, organizers said. A medical helicopter from Superior Air Ground Ambulance Service will be on-site from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
There also will be a “touch-a-truck” display, face-painting stations, information booths on local programs and other activities.

Fox River Trolley Museum offering ‘Rails to Victory’ rides in South Elgin
Fox River Trolley Museum in South Elgin will be hosting “Rails to Victory,” a reenactment of travel through Europe during World War II, on Saturday and Sunday, June 8-9.
The trolley ride, which takes two to three hours, includes a tour of a military camp and a ride to battle reenactments, according to the museum’s website.
Rides are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $24.
