Elgin man’s ‘Bozeum’ to be featured on MeTV’s ‘Collector’s Call’

“The Bozeum,” Elgin resident Tom Holbrook’s extensive collection of Bozo the Clown memorabilia, will be featured at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30, on MeTV’s “Collector’s Call” program.

Holbrook said the show’s production crew visited Elgin last August and spent an entire day shooting for the episode. Having his collection on national TV is a dream come true, he said.

“Nothing like this has ever happened for Bozo,” he said, “and it is a first for fans to see the incredible display featuring the mass marketing and popularity that Bozo has not just in Chicago for 40 years, but around the country.”

Holbrook said he’s planning to move his collection from a private location to a larger space in the Elgin area and will open to the public this fall.

Several celebrities have visited the exhibit, including radio personality Mancow Muller, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and magician Marshall Brodien Jr., son of Marshall Brodien Sr, who played Wizzo the Wizard on ” Bozo’s Circus” and “The Bozo Show,” Holbrook said.

Actor David Arquette, who owns the rights to Bozo, has visited too. Arquette will be back in July to film parts of a documentary on clowns and Bozo, he said.

South Elgin’s ‘Sliding through Summer’ family game to start July 2

“Sliding through Summer,” South Elgin’s version of “Chutes and Ladders,” will be available to play at village’s parks starting July 2 to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month.

The goal is to visit 10 South Elgin parks and find a decal hidden somewhere on a slide or ladder. The list of parks can be found at www.southelgin.com/slide or on a printed sheet available at the Municipal Annex, 1 W. State St., and in the lobby at Village Hall, 10 N. Water St.

The decal information is used to figure out a word scramble. Completed scrambles should be returned to claim prizes between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at South Elgin Parks and Recreation, 1 W. State St.
