Fiddler Dennis Stroughmatt to perform at Elgin Public Museum
Fiddler and fablist Dennis Stroughmatt will present “French Creoles of the Illinois Country: Fiddle Jigs, Creole Folktales and Haunting Ballads” at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd. in Lords Park.
Stroughmatt is a native of southern Illinois and an expert on French Creole music and the culture of Upper Louisiana, which includes sections of Illinois, Indiana and Missouri that were part of the Louisiana Purchase, according to the museum’s Facebook post.
Admission is free thanks to a grant from the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau.

Randall Oaks’ ‘Brew at the Zoo’ fundraiser set for Saturday
“Brew at the Zoo,” a fundraiser for Randall Oaks Zoo in West Dundee, will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 6.
Craft beer from Sew Hop’d Brewery, Holzlager Brewing Company and Phase Three Brewing Company is to be served, according to the zoo’s website. Wine and cocktails also will be available and designated drivers receive free water and soda.
The event will feature food trucks, live music, a photo booth, silent auctions, raffles, lawn games and tours. Tickets are $35 for zoo members, $40 for nonmembers and $15 for designated drivers.

Elgin Area Chamber announces new member relations associate
Linda Siete has been named the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce’s new member relations associate.
Siete is the former general manager of Reflejos Publications, and currently serves on the board of directors for the Ecker Center for Mental Health and for the Gail Borden Library Foundation, a news release said. She is a past member of the Elgin chamber’s board of directors.
Siete said she is looking forward to building positive relationships with current and long-standing chamber of commerce members, as well as introducing businesses to the wide benefits of becoming affiliated with the organization.
Family fun night to be held at Dundee Township’s Huffman Park
The Dundee Township Park District will be hosting a free family fun night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, in Huffman Park, 811 Tartans Drive, West Dundee.
The evening will feature a bubble show, balloon twisting, a climbing tree and other activities, according to the park district’s website. Should there be inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Adult Activities Center at the Rakow Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.
