Free tickets available for ‘Mutts Gone Nuts’ at ECC July 13
Seat reservations are being taken for “Mutts Gone Nuts,” a free, family-friendly canine variety show being presented at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Blizzard Theatre, Building H at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive.
“Mutts Gone Nuts” partners with local animal shelters to bring a show that promises laughter and heartwarming moments for dog lovers of all ages, according to the ECC website.

Unplug Illinois family activities planned at Panton Mill Park
South Elgin and various community organizations will host a free family event for Unplug Illinois Day from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at Panton Mill Park, 9 S. Water St. in South Elgin.
A variety of activities, lawn games and a Zumba class will be offered, according to a news release. No registration is required.
Unplug Illinois is a local and statewide effort to encourage people to turn off their electronic devices and take advantage of the recreational opportunities offered at local parks and by recreational departments. For more information, go to www.ipra.org.
Rotary Club Blind Flights Beer Tasting being held in Carpenter Park
Beers from 12 craft breweries can be sampled and judged during the Rotary Club of Carpentersville’s Blind Flights Beer Tasting from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 13, in Carpenter Park, 275 Maple Ave. in Carpentersville.
Duke’s BBQ and No Manches Mexican restaurant will be selling food, according to the event’s website.

Classic car show scheduled for July 14 at Elgin History Museum
The Elgin History Museum will be hosting a classic car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 14, outside its Old Main building at 360 Park St. in Elgin.
All makes and models are welcome to enter the judged show, according to the museum’s website. Registration is open from 9 a.m. to noon that day and costs $15. The free show will have live music, food and beverages for sale, and free admission to the museum.

West Dundee wins upgrade in ISO rating for fire protection service
The village of West Dundee’s fire protection service rating from Insurance Service Office (ISO) of Commercial Risk Services has increased from Class 3 to Class 2.
The ratings are on a scale of 1 to 10, with least favorable number being 10. An improved rating could help lower home insurance costs for residents because it is a key factor considered when setting premiums, according to a post on the West Dundee Facebook page.
There are only 127 Class 2 fire departments in Illinois and 2,035 nationwide, the village post said.
Prescription drug drop-off event being held July 10 in Elburn
State Reps. Dan Ugaste, R-Geneva, and Jeff Keicher, R-Sycamore, are partnering with the Elburn Police Department on a free prescription drug drop-off event from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at the Elburn Police Department, 301 E. North St.
Residents can remain in their vehicles while dropping off unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs, a news release said. Medications should be in a sealed plastic bag if possible.
Accepted medications include tablets, capsules and other solid forms of prescription drugs; patches, vaping devices and cartridges with lithium batteries removed; prescription ointments, pet medications and vitamins. Restricted items that will not be accepted include liquids, including intravenous solutions; syringes, needles and illegal drugs.

Food/toiletry drive starts Monday to help Centro de Informacion
State Rep. Anna Moeller, D-Elgin, is partnering with the Kane County Teachers Credit Union for an Emergency Food Pantry Drive in July to collect non-perishable food and toiletry items for Centro de Informacion’s emergency food pantry.
Food items needed include beans, rice, canned meats, pasta and pasta sauce, canned vegetables and fruit, cheese, peanut butter and jelly, cereal, and more. Travel size hairbrushes, tissue packs, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, nail clippers, tampons and sanity napkins and other toiletries, a news release said.

These drop-off sites will be available from Monday, July 8, through Friday, July 26:

Centro helps Latino and immigrant families make the transition to living here by providing essential food and personal items through a food pantry at its Elgin office. Items are distributed from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays or by appointment.
