Elgin News Digest: New West Dundee park offers playground, exercise equipment; Flag Day to be celebrated in Elgin with Friday ceremony

New West Dundee park offers playground, exercise equipment

Canterfield Park, featuring a playground, exercise equipment, baggo/cornhole area, walking trail, benches and parking lot, has opened in West Dundee.

Located at Route 31 and Boncosky Road, the playground is surrounded by a fence to protect children from traffic, Dundee Township Park District Executive Director Dave Peterson said.

A pedestrian crosswalk to reach the park has an activation button for safety that emits flashing lights, similar to the one on Huntley Road by the Raceway Woods Forest Preserve, Peterson said.

The park was designed by the Hitchcock Design Group and funded by the village of West Dundee using a $400,000 Illinois Department of Natural Resources Open Space Land Acquisition & Development grant, $350,000 in TIF funding and $150,000 in developer contributions, Village Manager Joe Cavallaro said.

The Villages at Canterfield, a 352-unit apartment complex, is located just south of the facility.
